stencil for loaves of bread
« on: April 05, 2010, 01:19:27 PM »
I would like any good idea of how I could put a fairly large Q on my loaves of bread,
sorta stencil made of ???????   so I could dust the top of the loaf with flour maybe
a light lick of egg white to make it stick but so that  it shows a nice Q when finished.
maybe about 2 inches high and 1 12 inches wide. any ideas any one....
It would have to be pliable as the tops of some loaves have rounded tops....

    Thanks, qahtan

Why don't you just cut a big Q in a card board and dust it with flour over the bread?

I'd agree that you might want to do a trial run with some cardboard or paper even (since it's just a trial run and doesn't need to last) using different shape and styles of Q's. Keep in mind with a circle style, you need to have something holding the centre part in.

Once you've found a nice letter, I'd go to a bargain shop and locate a little silicone pan liner or some other silicone sheet item and cut the Q out of that. This would then make it flexible and useful on curved surfaces.

I've attached a sample of some of the type faces I have; not all are appropriate but nearly all will need little bits of support lines to keep the centre part in place. If any of these tickle your fancy, let me know which one(s) like this "Row four, #5" and I'll make it/them sized as you needed so you can print and trace them.

Great idea! I have always wondered how they do the stencils too.

Thank you for your kind offer, I think I would like it to be big enough to see it well on the loaf,
so maybe about 4 inches long by about 3-- 31/2 wide, or even a little bigger.
 I rather liked the
 Row 4  # 8
 row  6 #  1
or
row   3 # 3,
But any I am sure would be great, it is that centre part that has me
confused as to how to...  Thank you for your interest and offer to help.... qahtan

Here's those 3 q's with the extra tabs added to keep the center bits in place.

Hopefully, they're big enough but you can always enlarge them a bit in a photo program.
