What about video-recipes?
« on: August 23, 2010, 01:45:39 AM »
Hello everybody,

yesterday I finished my baguette with poolish, I will post about it soon. Again, not really satisfied,  I am improving but I lack some tools, and I really don't know how a good baguette is supposed to taste.

Then I see your fantastic pictures, and I think that between us there must be really good bakers...and my idea is: maybe someone could show me how they make it. I know there are tons of videos available out there, but it might be interesting, and we might have a lot a fun, if we collect our own way of making bread.

What do you think about it?

To Paul: is't it possible to create a new section only with video, even just links, where one can find all the videos scattered in our posts?

Good idea, lello.

Not sure I have the wherewithall myself to make videos of my process since there's barely enough room in my kitchen as it is plus when I'm baking, I just grab the camera at particular points. A video would sort of require a 2nd person or at least a better placement for the camera (and a video camera to boot - I had one, it died) that is locked in place. Easy to set up lighting would help too since you need a fair bit more light than normal. BUT it's not necessarily difficult, just takes a little playing around and once you've got a set up, making it so it's easy to put up and tear down when done.

I'll look around the web to see if there are suggestions on how to make a simple kitchen studio.

However for those who have significant others who'd be willing to play videographer or have a physical space that allowed for simples set up (lighting, visuals, a somewhat clean kitchen in the background, etc.) this could be a fun idea. If you can do this, go for it! Then upload your vids to YouTube or Vimeo (or GoogleVideo or BlipTv or...) and embed it into your bread thread or, if you locate a good 'teaching' video that may help others, add it to the Overview thread.

How do I embed a video?

To embed a video, just click the normal link button in the posting form and add the video's location, like this:

Code: [Select]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI-WstoakmQ#ws
and give this:

As we've been going along, I've added some videos pertaining to a specific bread, say the shaping video for baguettes above, in the "overview" thread for that bread. This being a Mellow place, anyone is welcome to add videos specific to any particular bread in the overview thread as well, no permission required.

Paul, you are right a kitchen studio can be quite complex when one is moving there must be someone else recording...I just broke my camera (400 euros!!) while taking photos of my bread... :(
400 euros baguette...should be really good!! :)

Did a quick search and found this series of videos on shooting videos. Not all of it will apply and you may not want to upload to MonkeySee.com but it's probably still good stuff to know in general for shooting how to's.

What video sources get automatically parsed by the forum software?

Simply by entering the URL to the specific video (no need for special tags, just the url) the system will know to embed the video you point to in the post. What site's videos can you do this with? LOTS!!!
