Chris's flaky butter buns

I baked these last weekend, but life has got in the way of me posting about them until now. http://chris.throup.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/wpid-IMAG0006.jpg As you can see, I went for the "bacon at breakfast" approach. I'm really curious to know how everyone else ate theirs! Full st...

Re: Flaky Butter Buns Overview

That's interesting, Mal, because the ingredients list there is not the same as in the book. For a start, in the book the mass of fresh yeast and salt are both 2% (ie 10g) and, I think (because the book is on the bookshelf downstairs and I am not!), the milk required is less than that given in your l...

Chris's quick white loaf

http://chris.throup.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/2012-04-08-15.26.55-1024x577.jpg I had a go at the quick white loaf today. I didn't have great expectations, but I did have my own bread baker's apprentice. He certainly enjoyed the finished product. http://chris.throup.org.uk/wp-content/uploads...

Good luck with your starter. If you need a backup backup then I'm 90 minutes up the A46.

Re: Hi, I'm Olly

Hi, Olly.

Welcome aboard. I used to live in Cov too, from when I was at Warwick Uni, but I'm in Nottinghamshire now. There's some nice looking breads on your blog already so I look forward to seeing what you make of the breads in The Handmade Loaf.

Re: Quick White Loaf Overview

Thanks for the overview, Paul. The page numbers are identical (at least for this month's breads) in the UK edition.

Re: Anyone fancy joining in a mellow podcast?

Thanks for the suggestions, Will. Were you thinking of aiming it purely at participants, or of collaborating with participants to create something for a wider audience? My original idea was simply to record my own experiences in audio form and release them alongside my blog postings, so neither! But...

Re: Anyone fancy joining in a mellow podcast?

I'm not greatly experienced myself, Will. I have been baking for about 4 years, but only about 6 months in anything approaching a structured fashion. As for what you can bring, a little bit of obsession may be just what this needs. As I said before, I haven't worked out any specifics yet, so even su...

Anyone fancy joining in a mellow podcast?

I was considering recording my baking experiences in podcast form, and it occurred to me this may be something a group of mellow bakers could do together. Anyone interested? I have only had an initial idea so no specifics yet. I imagine one per month, discussing each of that month's breads in one se...

Re: River Cottage Handbook No.3 - Bread

This was the first bread book I bought, inspired by seeing Dan make sourdough on a River Cottage TV episode (it looked so simple yet so complex... just my thing!) and it got me hooked on bread baking. I have created three sourdough starters following directions in this book and, every time, it just ...
